About the municipality

Organisation
The organisation of Eskilstuna municipality includes committees, administrations and companies.

The committees are responsible for ensuring that the services the municipality provides comply with current laws and regulations. The committees also make their own decisions within their specialised areas and draft a budget for their own area of activities. All committee members are elected representatives.

The administrations carry out municipal services decided by the committees. They also assist committees and boards with investigation and planning. People working in the administrations are local government officials.

Torshälla town
Torshälla town is part of Eskilstuna municipality, but holds a special position as Torshälla Town Committee has its own responsibility for most municipal activities within their geographical area. This means that it is near to the municipal services and decision-makers.

Torshälla Town Committee is responsible for compulsory education, pre-school activities, care of the elderly and people with functional impairment, individual and family care, social welfare and labour market activities, culture and leisure activities, parks, streets and traffic issues.
The committee has implemented an environment management system and since May 2003, Torshälla Town Administration has environmental certification under EMAS and ISO 14001.

Torshälla dates back to the 14th century and remains an idyllic town with cobbled streets and preserved wooden buildings. The population is around 8 500. North of the population centre on the shores of Lake Mälaren are the attractive areas Mälarbaden, Roxnäs and Ängsholmen for permanent residence and holiday cottages. The beautiful countryside, the proximity to lake Mälaren, a wide range of cultural  and club activities, and well-developed municipal services contribute to making Torshälla an attractive place to live.
